Master plan for Gungahlin

Does it ever feel like planning for Gungahlin wasn’t quite thought out well enough? Our single lanes are being duplicated, and we even saw a third lane added on to our duplicated Gungahlin Drive.  Sections of Horsepark Drive are being duplicated a mere 2 years after being constructed.

Gungahlin needs a master plan like other regions already have.  There have been planned elements, but for some reason, they are not being tied together.  Let’s assess where we are now and where we want to be, then get there.

Health

Gungahlin is growing rapidly and we need to ensure our healthcare options keep up, along with other facilities and services.  A nurse-led walk-in clinic would be be a welcome addition to the region.  Given we missed out on the hospital that is being built at University of Canberra instead, we need a strong voice to demand Gungahlin isn’t left behind.

Education

Education is the foundation for everything that comes after.  We owe it to ourselves and to our children to equip them in the best possible way to succeed in the world.

The Department of Education has admitted that they got population estimates wrong for Gungahlin, and that our schooling profile needs adjustment.  Gungahlin College is running classes until 8pm to cope with 30% over-enrolment, yet there are no public plans to add capacity in Gungahlin.
