Please please please reconsider grabbing for more cash on the blocks in Section 19 and rezone these into shops. We paid so much to live in Throsby, and we need a local shops. | Aug 24, 2020 |

1 | David P. | Save Throsby shops! | Aug 24, 2020 |
Thanks David for organising this and for the chance you’re giving us to potentially have shops here in Throsby. Really good work David.
I hope we get a result!
We need a local shop.
Agreed. Unfortunately, the land in Throsby that is zoned for commercial has sold to a residential developer, so they are going to be 72 townhouses. The blocks next door that could have been rezoned for commercial development have also begun to sell, so they are no longer an option either.
I have not given up on having a focal point for Throsby, but local shops are now very unlikely.
Throsby should have a community shops. SLA May need to buy back some land to make it happen. Not good enough for residents of a suburb sold under false expectations. Developers should not be calling the shots.
I am still following this, however at this stage the SLA seem to be saying “we heard the feedback and will take it on board for future suburbs”. There appears to be no appetite at all to help Throsby now that the damage is done.
Hi David,
Thanks for raising this issue.
We just signed a house and land package in Throsby recently. Our expectation about Mixed Use Section 18 is also that will be local shops. Otherwise what is the sense of labelling it separately and different to Singular Residual Block and Medium Density Multi Unit in https://suburbanland.act.gov.au/uploads/ckfinder/files/pdf/2_Residential/Throsby/Estate_Map/Throsby-Marketing%20Estate%20Map_2019-08-09.pdf ?
Wonder whether this is allowed by the law?
Unfortunately it is allowed by law – the situation is within the planning legislation. I believe it is misleading and deceptive to label land as “commercial” and then sell it to the first residential property developer to come along, without any community consultation. Unfortunately we have very little say in the matter.
